Bad breath causes many problems, so it is no wonder that most people with bad breath have to find solutions on how to overcome the problem.

Bad breath is always embarrassing, affects self esteem and has a negative effect on the social life of an individual.

A person with bad breath will always find it difficult to talk to people. It is not difficult to get rid of bad breath. Proper dental hygiene, natural remedies and, if necessary, medication can prevent bad breath.

Good dental hygiene is the best cure for bad breath. Regular brushing and flossing of the teeth, cleaning of the tongue and using a mouthwash help to get rid of the bacteria that produce bad breath.

A trip to the dentist who can perform a proper tooth and mouth clean will also eliminate bad breath. He can also assess you on whether you have gingivitis or periodontal disease and offer strategies on how to deal with these problems.

In the case of gum disease, your doctor or dentist may prescribe antibiotics. These can come in the form of antibiotic mouthwash, topical antibiotics, pills, capsules or insertions that are placed in the pockets of the gums. There are also medicated toothpastes which can treat gingivitis.

Natural solutions that can help treat to prevent bad breath include; use a mouthwash made of apple cider vinegar, drink plenty of water as this will stop your mouth becoming dehydrated. Likewise, you can take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar before each meal.

Bad breath products like mints and other breath fresheners work more to mask the smell of your breath than to actually cure the problem. These can be quite useful when you do not want your breath to smell, but the effect does wear off.

The best type of breath freshener to use is chewing gum. While chewing, our mouth releases more saliva. More saliva in the mouth helps create an environment that is not receptive to bacteria.

It is easier to prevent bad breath, than it is to cure it. The best way to prevent bad breath is to follow good hygiene practices such as brushing teeth both morning and night, flossing teeth regularly, cleaning tongue, using mouth wash and also visiting dentist every six months.

Making changes to the diet, taking steps to improve the digestive system and taking preventative measures against mouth dehydration will also help prevent some one from getting bad breath.

For example reduce the amount of high fat foods, meat, sugar and dairy products from the diet. A person can eliminate garlic and spicy foods if they cause a problem, cut back on coffee and tea, eat more fruit to improve the digestive system.

Take foods rich in vitamins B and C and zinc. Eat yoghurt and plenty of fiber to improve your digestion.

The bad breath cause is sulphur-producing or anaerobic bacteria. This bacteria breed in the mouth, producing bad breath. However, there are other medical conditions that can lead to chronic breath. Knowing what causes bad breath is one of the first steps in dealing with bad breath.

The following medical conditions such as diabetes, infection of the nose, windpipe or lungs, chronic bronchitis, chronic sinusitis, liver disorder, kidney disorder, a gastrointestinal disorder, a gallbladder dysfunction and nasal polyps. It is important to notice that syphilis can often result in bad breath.

When people become dehydrated, their mouths do not produce as much saliva. Lack of saliva in the mouth means there is a lack of oxygen.

A lack of oxygen makes it easier for sulphur-producing bacteria to thrive. Poor digestion may contribute to some cases of bad breath.
