Profiles of the Silverbacks

IT is ten days to Silverbacks’ greatest adventure- the Hong Kong 7s. Times Sport’s Joseph Bugabo is going to run you through the profiles of those who will be part of this historic trip, representing their nation in one of the world’s greatest rugby competitions.

Lucien Bikamba, Fly-half

At 26 weighing 78kgs, Bikamba is one of Rwanda’s pioneer rugby players. Nicknamed ‘Wilkinson’ for sharing the same position (fly half) and passion as legendary World Cup winner Jonny Wilkinson, Bikamba’s first cap came in 2003 against Burundi.

In the same year, he took part in the White Spoon tourney in Zambia. He has since grown from the skinny kid he was to a mature star able to read and create moves. Hong Kong should bring the best out of him.

Favourite dish: Fries with either chicken
or fish or the whole combination.
Favourite music: Reggae and rock.
Not surprised with the choice.
Hobbies: For a hard rugger…he is into Romantic movies. Mmmhhh…
International caps-12

Didier Kamanzi, Prop

In his ten-year rugby career, 25-year-old Kamanzi boasts of vast experience.

At 84kgs, he can play in any position but will serve his nation as a Prop. With his kind of commitment and love for the game, Kamanzi’s tally of caps should grow from the current 8 to many more.

Favourite dish: Posho, fries with either fish or beef sprinkled with greens.

Favourite music: Hip-hop
Hobbies: Meeting friends…he sure must make many from rugby…especially those that suffer his hard tackles.
