The head of the Public Service Commission, Angelina Muganza, has called on all stakeholders in the campaign to empower women to put in more effort if they are to enjoy the fruits of the progress registered so far.

She was speaking during celebrations to mark this year’s International Women’s Day at Green Hills Academy in Nyarutarama, Gasabo District.

"Although the day is supposed to mark the economic, social and political achievements women have registered over the years, it should be used to remind governments and other stakeholders of their unfulfilled promises on equal rights and empowering women,” she said.

"We appreciate the affirmative action that has made women access education and hold political positions. But the numbers alone is not enough, we want impact”.

This year’s International Women’s Day was marked under the theme "Equal rights, equal opportunity, and progress for all,” while the national theme is "Consolidating equal opportunities for women: A path to prosperity for all”.

During the celebrations, MTN Rwanda donated items worth Rwf 1million to Umugore Windashikirwa, women’s organization in the area.

The telecom giant’s representative during the celebrations, Annie Tabura, called on youth to be more constructive rather than being biased by gender.
