Fuso truck knocks roadside vendors, one dead

GICUMBI – One person died on the spot and six others were seriously injured on Tuesday when a Fuso truck Reg.RAB 871G heading to Gatuna from Kigali lost control and swerved off the road. The accident took place at 4.30 pm, at Rwafandi trading center, about 40km along Kigali-Gatuna highway.

GICUMBI – One person died on the spot and six others were seriously injured on Tuesday when a Fuso truck Reg.RAB 871G heading to Gatuna from Kigali lost control and swerved off the road.

The accident took place at 4.30 pm, at Rwafandi trading center, about 40km along Kigali-Gatuna highway. 

Police said the accident happened after the driver lost control of the truck, knocking nearby residents before it overturned.

"The truck knocked one person dead and seriously injured six other residents who were selling roasted maize and meat along the road,” said the Police source. 

When The New Times rushed to the scene, the six injured residents had been rushed to Byumba Hospital while the body of the deceased identified as Espérance Mukahigiro aged 40, was still lying underneath the overturned truck.

In a related development, another Fuso truck Reg.UAL 744L also heading to Gatuna border from Kigali, knocked a taxi motorcyclist, about 2 km from the scene of the first accident and seriously injured the motorcyclist and a passenger who were heading towards Kigali from Byumba town. 

"The Fuso truck knocked the taxi motorcycle, breaking both the legs of the motorcyclist and the passenger,” said an eye witness who gave his name only as Mbonyimana. 
Police said the victims were also rushed to Byumba Hospital in critical conditions. 

Police added that the drivers and turn boys of the two Fuso trucks involved in the accidents escaped unhurt.
