Governor lauds women development initiatives

RUHANGO – The Governor of the Southern Province, Fidèle Ndayisaba, has praised rural women across the province for playing a fundamental role in eliminating poverty and attaining self sustenance. The Governor was speaking at the provincial Women’s Day celebrations on March 8, in Ruhango sector, Ruhango district.

RUHANGO – The Governor of the Southern Province, Fidèle Ndayisaba, has praised rural women across the province for playing a fundamental role in eliminating poverty and attaining self sustenance.

The Governor was speaking at the provincial Women’s Day celebrations on March 8, in Ruhango sector, Ruhango district.

He said, "Women have been fundamental in development and their participation in government poverty eradication strategies has yielded fruits. This example should be emulated by all citizens in order to eliminate poverty in the country.”

The Governor also lauded the National Women’s Council (CNF) for conducting various training sessions which have enabled women to overcome ‘ignorance’.

Rural women attributed their success to working in associations,  cooperatives, and saving schemes among others.

Women leaders revealed that there were huge efforts in the fight against gender based violence, but there was need to improve on family planning services in rural areas.
Ndayisaba also toured activities of one of the prosperous women in the district.

Dativa Mupfasoni, who started business with very minimal capital in 1996, has constructed two houses while expanding on livestock keeping and agriculture activities in Ruhango sector.

The Governor was accompanied by Members of Parliament, Francois Byabarumwanzi, Agnes Nyirabagenzi and CNF officials.
