Editor,

I was happy to read in yesterday’s The New Times that nineteen students, comprising 15 boys and 4 girls drawn from Rukira and Rurenge sectors of Ngoma district, had completed a course in vehicle mechanics at the Kibungo-based School of Automobile Mechanics.

Not everyone will get the opportunity to go to university, therefore having a diploma in a practical course is the way to go. In fact, I advocate for even more vocational schools.

I’m also very pleased that girls were involved in this ‘male’ course. The days of saying that certain jobs were only meant for certain sexes are long gone.
