THE national rugby team-Silverbacks on Saturday afternoon warmed up nicely for the Hong Kong 10 aside when they defeated National University of Rwanda (UNR) Grizzlies 34-5 at Huye stadium.
Fly half Lucien Bikamba led the way with three tries, while center forward Eric Mbarushimana added two tries and penalty to give the visitors a healthy first half lead.
Captain Benjamin Makombe completed the rout with a try and a penalty in an entertaining encounter that attracted a big crowd dominated by UNR students.
Silverbacks caretaker coach Gerald Nsenga was pleased with the team’s progress and told Times Sport that the team will play a few more friendlies before leaving for Hong Kong."The players were up to the task and played well.”
Silverbacks will make their first major international appearance in the Hong Kong 10 aside tournament that will also attract teams from New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Fuji, Samoa, Kenya, Tonga and Zimbabwe.
