Rwanda’s top seed Jean Claude Gasigwa was yesterday sent packing out of the KCB tennis open after losing 2-6, 1-6 to Ugandan ace Duncan Mugabe at the Nairobi Club Murram courts.

The 27-year-old did not stand any chance against Mugabe, who is fresh from winning the ITF/CAT East Africa prize money Kampala leg last week.

Gasigwa had reached the semis after dislodging Kenya’s Dennis Ochieng 6-4 6-2 while Mugabe saw off Zimbabwean Masimba Muchenje 6-2, 6-2.

In the other semi-final Francis Rogoi overcame fellow country man Allan Copper after defeating him 6-3,4-6, 6-3.  In the women’s fray Carolyn Oduor headed straight to the finals after clearing the 2009 Commonwealth Youth Games contestant Joie Keter with 6-4, 6-0.

Highest seeded Oduor, who has so far lived to expectation, will be defending her title at the same time fighting for the Sh75, 000 set for the category against Aziza Butoyi.

Butoyi trampled on Onyango Njeri with a 6-1, 6-0 win to book a date with Oduor in an expected exciting women’s final.
