Tanzania head coach Miguel Gamondi expressed mixed feelings about the FIFA Series 2026 international friendlies held in Kigali, saying that his team should have done better considering their opponents.

The Taifa Stars finished third in Group B after a commanding 6-0 victory over Macau on Sunday at Kigali Pele Stadium.

Gamondi’s side narrowly missed out on a place in the final following a 1-0 defeat to Liechtenstein in the semifinals. However, the emphatic win over Macau ensured the East African nation ended the campaign on a positive note.

"It’s a mix of feelings. We’re happy to win this game, but honestly, we also deserved to win the first one. The most important thing is that we proved ourselves tactically and mentally,” Gamondi told the press.

Tanzania are currently ranked 113th in the world, ahead of their Group B opponents Aruba (191st), Liechtenstein (193rd), and Macau (205th). As the highest-ranked team in the group, Tanzania entered the tournament as favourites to lift the trophy, now in its second edition following its inaugural staging in 2024.

Gamondi emphasized that the FIFA Series served as an important benchmark, highlighting that rankings alone do not determine outcomes in football.

"We need to continue scouting for the right players and conducting different tests to improve our game. We also need more match experience to understand what to correct over time,” he added.

In Group B, Aruba emerged as champions after defeating Liechtenstein 4-1 in the final.
