Petro de Luanda 104-90 Al Ahly Ly

Dar City 90–85 Nairobi City Thunder

Petro de Luanda delivered a dominant performance to defeat Al Ahly Ly 104-90 in the Basketball Africa League Kalahari Conference taking place at SunBet Arena in Pretoria, South Africa, on Saturday.

The Angolan giants controlled the game from the outset, capitalising on defensive lapses from Al Ahly Ly, who conceded over 100 points for the second consecutive match.

The Libyan side, now 0-2 in the 2026 BAL campaign, is under pressure to respond after also falling 103-95 to RSSB Tigers on Friday.

Team captain Sofian Hamad urged his teammates to regroup following the heavy defeat, as concerns grow over the team’s defensive struggles.

Petro de Luanda, who led throughout the contest, showed their attacking depth with Childe Dundao coming off the bench to score a game-high 27 points, while Milton Valente added 19 after opening the scoring.

The result also adds another chapter to the growing rivalry between the two sides. When they last met in the 2024 BAL final, Petro de Luanda went on to lift their maiden title. However, the Angolans were denied back-to-back success last year after losing to Al Ahli Tripoli—Al Ahly Ly’s domestic rivals.

Elsewhere, Nairobi City Thunder suffered a narrow 90-85 defeat to Dar City. The Tanzanian champions secured their second win in as many games, boosting their chances of reaching the playoffs in the Kalahari Conference.

Looking ahead, Petro de Luanda will face RSSB Tigers on Sunday, while Al Ahly Ly will attempt to recover when they take on high-flying Dar City on Tuesday, March 31.
