Rutsiro FC 1-2 Al Hilal SC
Al Hilal returned to the top of the Rwanda Premier League after coming from behind to defeat Rutsiro FC 2-1 at Umuganda Stadium on Saturday, March 28.
The hosts took the lead just before halftime when Godspower Aligo struck in the 44th minute, putting Rutsiro in control heading into the break.
However, Al Hilal mounted a late comeback, with Sunday Damirale scoring twice in quick succession—netting in the 78th and 84th minutes—to turn the game around and secure all three points.
The victory lifts Al Hilal to 51 points, two ahead of APR FC, who drop to second place.
The Sudanese side could extend their lead further, as they still have two matches in hand. They are set to face Amagaju FC on March 31 and Marines FC on April 6.
Al Hilal head into these fixtures in strong form, having also beaten Bugesera FC earlier in the week. Notably, they are navigating this crucial stage of the season without nine key players currently on national team duty.
The Rwanda Premier League will pause briefly due to the ongoing FIFA Series 2026 in Kigali from March 26–30.
Despite their domestic success, Al Hilal will be aiming to finish the season strongly following their exit from the CAF Champions League, where they were eliminated 2-1 on aggregate by RS Berkane in the quarterfinals.
