Men’s final       :    UNR 3-1 APR
Women’s final :      UNR 3-0 APED Rwaza

RWANDA National University sealed their second Coupe du Rwanda title last Sunday after a 3-1 set victory over APR in the finals that were held at Amahoro indoor stadium.

It was UNR’s first silverware of the 2007 season after surrendering the league title to APR back in May.

Under their coach player Fidele Nyirimana who has been in charge since Emmanuel Ndungutse’s departure, the Butare giants displayed exceptional volleyball and rarely gave away anything to the army-side.

On the other hand, APR who were playing without their top center blocker Jean Pierre Uwamahoro struggled defensively.

The 2007 league champions found it hard to stop UNR’s Eric Nsabimana, one of the top spikers in the country.

It is the second back to back defeat for APR in the tournament after suffering a similar defeat against Kigali Volleyball Club in 2006.

Just like in the men’s category, UNR was unstoppable in the ladies’ category as they cruised to a 3-0 set victory over APED Rwaza.

On top of the trophies, the winners walked away with bank cheques equivalent to Frw200, 000 courtesy of the national volleyball federation.

Rolling into its 10th edition, the two-day tournament attracted eleven clubs; six in the men’s category and five in the ladies’ section.
