MUHANGA -Two women in Muhanga sector, Muhanga district were last week arrested in connection with a series of theft cases in various places across the district.

The sector leader Vedaste Habinshuti, said Yvonne Nyarihabimana,17, and Claudine Mukabyenda, 38, were arrested after stealing a mobile phone.

"The stolen phone has been recovered after a hustle but the pair is very dangerous to society,” Habinshuti remarked.

In the past, it is alleged that the duo has been conning residents of their property in markets, bars and churches.
Speaking from the Muhanga Sector detention centre, the suspects admitted to the crimes and swore never to repeat them if released.

They said they have a network of other women they have been working with in different parts of the country, including Kigali.

Aline Mukabalisa, a National Women’s Council (CNF) official rebuked the suspects and referred to their activities as ‘shameful in an era of empowering women towards development.’
