GICUMBI - Byumba Sector Business community in Gicumbi district has pledged to help in the construction of houses for vulnerable persons in the sector.

They made the pledge during last Saturday’s community work (Umuganda), where they cleared bushes along tarmac roads in Byumba town.

Addressing the group, the chairman of Byumba Sector Advisory council, Eugene Ntazinda, noted the support from the business community would be critical in eliminating grass thatched houses in the district.

"Your physical and financial contribution is needed to eradicate grass thatched houses, occupied by vulnerable persons in Byumba Sector,” he said shortly after the community work.

The participants contributed a total of Rwf24,000, towards the roofing of houses for people formerly living in grass thatched houses in the sector.

On the same occasion, Lt. Col. Willy Bagabe, of the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) 408 Brigade, called on the business community to be on the forefront in ensuring security by reporting suspicious cases in the area.

"Security is the backbone of the prosperity of your businesses, that is why you should report any suspicious person posing a security threat in your localities,” he said.
