Rwanda Revenue Authority Friday officially unveiled the International Organisation for Standardisation, ISO 9001: 2008 certification.

The ceremony was attended by John Rwangombwa the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning at the Institution’s premises.

Addressing RRA officials and the members of the taxpayers’ community, Minister Rwangombwa told them to think about the new reforms which would enable the business community become satisfied with RRA’s services.

‘This is a starting point, but there is still a long way to go,” he noted.

"RRA being certified by ISO is a sign of good governance in our country”.

Rwangombwa said that what RRA has achieved shows that it has what is needed to have a quality management system.

He urged RRA officials to always focus on giving better services to their customers in order to satisfy their demands.

The finance minister further advised the body that the ISO certification should be used for productivity and not just be seen as a decoration in the office.

"You should utilise the available improved services and engage yourselves in using information communication technology while conducting your businesses in order to save time,” he urged.

Since December 2005, RRA initiated Quality Management System Manual (QMS) that is recognised by ISO and this led the Institution to get certified with ISO 9001:2008.

According to RRA Commissioner General, Mary Baine, ISO certification demonstrates RRA’s ability to enhance customer satisfaction through effective application of quality systems.

"RRA was considered for certification because we had all the general requirements needed by the International Organization for Standardization,” she noted.

It is reported that RRA implemented the eight Quality Management Principles thus meeting the QMS standards within the ISO 9001:2008.

ISO is a world wide federation of national standards bodies based in Geneva Switzerland. Its purpose is to provide a single set of standards that people would recognize and respect.
