GATSIBO/NYAGATARE - An Italian NGO, AMIC DEI POPOLI (Friends of People) has inaugurated a health centre worth Rwf250million in Katabagemu sector in Nyagatare district.
The NGO also donated medicine and IT materials worth Rwf145 million to Rwimbogo Health Centre in Gatsibo district.

Speaking at Rwimbogo Health Centre on Thursday, the Italian Cooperation country representative, Valerio Ruggirello asked health centre staff to always provide quality and quick services to patients.

‘We met with Gatsibo district Mayor Anselme Majoro Rurangwa  and discussed different developmental activities where we offer support. Two health centres in both districts were our priorities,’ he said, urging the health personnel to put to good use the donated equipment.

The NGO also carried out rehabilitation works at the health centre.

In a separate interview with The New Times, Ruggirello said that the donation was due to the long term relationship between the two districts and the Italian Cooperation.

Meanwhile, Rwimbogo Health Centre director, Antony Bigirimana, disclosed that the health centre is facing budgetary constraints to cater for staff salaries.

‘The health centre still experiences financial constraints. We always use the little money we get from health insurance scheme to pay our employees,’ he said.

In response, the district Mayor Rurangwa, appealed to residents to raise more funds for paying the health centre employees, arguing that they cannot always wait for the government to sort out all their challenges.
