Rwanda’s Ambassador to Austria, Urujeni Bakuramutsa, has formally assumed her diplomatic duties after presenting her Letters of Credence to Alexander Van der Bellen, the Federal President of Austria.
The ceremony took place at the Hofburg Presidential Palace in Vienna on Tuesday, March 10.

During the meeting, Bakuramutsa and President Van der Bellen reaffirmed the strong ties between Rwanda and Austria and expressed their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Presenting letters of credence is a formal diplomatic process through which an ambassador is officially recognised by the host country’s head of state, allowing them to begin representing their government in the receiving country.

While in Vienna, the envoy also held discussions with Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal, Special Envoy to the Federal Chancellor of Austria, as part of engagements aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Rwanda and Austria maintain cordial diplomatic relations and have collaborated in areas including development cooperation, education and multilateral diplomacy.
The two countries have also partnered on development initiatives supported by the Austrian Development Cooperation Agency, focusing on water and sanitation, youth empowerment, employability, and the justice sector.
Officials say both countries continue to explore opportunities to expand cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, innovation, tourism, cultural diplomacy and multilateral engagement.
