Nyamabuye sweeps up illegal businesses

MUHANGA - Police and local leaders in Nyamabuye sector, Muhanga district have mounted an operation to eliminate illegal business in a bid to keep the city clean. The operation comes after the Muhanga District Security Council, on February 17, raised concerns over the increasing insecurity and congestion in Gitarama town caused by illegal businesses and idlers.

MUHANGA - Police and local leaders in Nyamabuye sector, Muhanga district have mounted an operation to eliminate illegal business in a bid to keep the city clean.

The operation comes after the Muhanga District Security Council, on February 17, raised concerns over the increasing insecurity and congestion in Gitarama town caused by illegal businesses and idlers.

"Over 50 illegal dealers have been arrested including hawkers, market vendors, idlers, beggars and street children. The confiscated goods will be given to vulnerable persons and the intension is clean up the city” said Jean Baptiste Mugunga, the sector leader.

Mugunga explained that the affected categories have been a prime cause of unnecessary congestion, drug cartels, and increased crime, poor hygiene and tax evasion.

This operation will continue and the residents have been advised to set up their business in authorized areas of trade.

Some of the affected persons said that they lacked capacity to run legal business and have few options of survival.
