Authorities in Entebbe later confirmed they had launched a search operation after the coach went missing near Lake Victoria, where he had reportedly gone to pray with colleagues.

Following the search, police announced that Mutebi had been found in Kisubi where he was receiving medical treatment.

"Coach Mike Mutebi has been found in Kisubi and is currently in hospital receiving medical attention. We thank everyone who provided information on his whereabouts,” police said in a statement on Monday, March 9.

Mutebi is best known for his successful spell at Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA), where he guided the club to three Ugandan Premier League titles, two Uganda Cups, four Super Cups and one CECAFA Club Championship within five years.

The experienced coach also had a brief stint in Rwanda where he coached AS Kigali in January 2022. He left the club four months later due to poor results.
