The Crown Princess toured the memorial and laid a wreath in honour of more than 250,000 victims laid to rest at the memorial.

The visit offered her an opportunity to learn about Rwanda’s history and reflect on the legacy of remembrance and resilience that defines the country’s journey over the past three decades.

"We must always remember,” the princess wrote in the visitors book. "Very hard to see but so important. Thank you and God bless all the families.”

Her visit to the memorial comes just days after she met Rwanda’s First Lady, Jeannette Kagame, at the offices of Imbuto Foundation on Thursday, February 26.

During that meeting, the two held discussions focused on education, refugee empowerment, and development cooperation.

Marie-Chantal is married to Pavlos, Crown Prince of Greece, and is part of the former Greek royal family. Though Greece abolished its monarchy in 1973, the family retains its historical titles and continues to engage in philanthropic and international initiatives. Marie-Chantal is widely known for her humanitarian work, particularly in support of children and displaced communities.

She founded the UNHCR-backed Building Better Futures campaign, which promotes education and empowerment opportunities for refugee girls and women.
