MUSANZE — A 6-year old boy was killed and another child lost his arms after a stick grenade they were allegedly playing with exploded yesterday.

The grisly incident occurred in Cyabararika cell, Ruhengeri town, at the home of the Umudugudu Executive Secretary, Emmanuel Karegesa.

The family members reported that the elder brother only identified as Shema, returned from school carrying something in his school bag, and as soon as he entered the house, they heard a grenade blast.

"We cannot tell the origin, we just heard a grenade blast inside the house. By the time we entered there was blood, the young boy was already dead, while the other was bleeding,’’ Karegesa said.

Family members suspected that the grenade exploded while the boys attempted to open it.

The cell Executive Secretary, Jonas Cyashusho, said that the circumstances under which it exploded was unclear, so was the grenades’ origin.

"We have called the police to try and investigate the incident,”  Cyashusho said. "In security meetings we encourage the residents to forward the firearms.’’
