The entertainment industry daily keeps us knowledgeable about what is fashionable and up to date. Movies, music and fashion trends always dictate what perfect means; this is so wrong.

These mediums of information always portray the world’s thinnest and most indecent models and make every teenager think that’s the perfect, good looking person; again, this is so wrong!

Being a teenager is probably the most beautiful stage of anyone’s life. As your body changes you can either embrace the changes or hate them. But the changes keep progressing to form the current you.

When teens start trying anything from medication, diet and whatever it takes to look like what the media and the magazines dictate; they begin to lose their minds.

Teens get lost in this jigsaw of confusion as they become unreal, plastic, mean and depressed as they forget who they really are.

One tip to overcome this madness is to remember that no one is perfect. Understanding that we are all unique and special because we are all created to be different will greatly help.

Because we are different does not make us any better than others. People are more than what they look like. The inner beauty contained within is what makes them glow and look beautiful; that is why people will never be happy based on their looks.

The way you look is never enough when it comes to finding a sense of belonging, however, it is what you believe in and what you identify with.

In other words, looking good begins with how you feel within. Teens can learn to appreciate who they are in order to boost their self esteem.

So the next time you are confronted with a low self esteem, simply remember that you are special, unique and valuable.

Every teenager in Rwanda is a beautiful gift to their parents, schools, community and all the people in their lives. Teenagers are talented and more than able to achieve their dreams in life.

There is nothing in this world that should stop you from grasping your value in this country; since we all know that, ‘The children of today are the leaders of tomorrow’.
