Veteran radio presenter and musician Austin Luwano, better known as Uncle Austin, has announced he is stepping away from radio, bringing to a close a career that has spanned more than two decades on Rwanda’s airwaves.
The media personality shared the news in a statement posted on his social media platforms on Thursday, February 26.
"Ladies and gentlemen, Austin is going off radio,” reads the closing line of his statement.
"Radio airwaves, I love you and I have loved you all my life. You’re a part of me and always will be. It’s been a wonderful 26 years on radio. I know most of you grew up listening to me, but I was growing up talking to you too.”
Throughout his broadcasting career, Uncle Austin worked with several radio stations, including Radio 10, Flash FM and KFM, before joining Kiss FM in 2014. He left the station in 2022 to join Power FM as a shareholder, but returned to Kiss FM eight months later.
In a farewell message, Kiss FM paid tribute to the presenter’s contribution to the station.
"Your voice, your energy and your presence have been part of the Kiss FM story. Thank you so much for your contribution on 102.3/102.5 Kiss FM. Wishing you nothing but success in your next chapter,” the station posted on X.
Over the years, Uncle Austin built a strong profile as a broadcaster who seamlessly blended radio with music. Beyond the studio, he has worked as a master of ceremonies at major concerts and social events, while remaining active in Rwanda’s entertainment industry as a musician and talent manager through his Uncle’s Empire platform.
His departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Rwanda’s radio landscape, where he became a familiar and influential voice to generations of listeners.
Uncle Austin has not yet disclosed his next professional move.
