KAYONZA — The Mayor of Kayonza district Damas Muhororo has advised residents to invest in fishing business on Lake Muhazi. 

He observed that the vast potentials of the lake remain unexploited, yet the business community complains of lack of profitable business opportunity.

"Look around Lake Muhazi, there is no tangible business going on. People come from afar to forge some unreasonable beaches. Start up some hotels on the shores of the lake and improve fishing,” he said. 

"You know we claim to be the highest producers of fish in the country, but I don’t think it is correct- we are not doing any meaningful fishing. I challenge you to get into it.”

He was meeting business community over the weekend.
Anastase Barinda, the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs advised the businesspersons to shift from traditional way of doing business.   

"No single person should be rigid when it comes to business. We have to go with changes in demand that are always determining factors of profit making. Fish farming for instance, would make great business,” he said. 

However, Robert Karamaga, a businessman said that there is need to be equipped with skills and knowledge for them to improve fishing industry.

"We have fish in Lakes like Rwinkwavu that are only fed on by crocodiles. How does one fight crocodiles?” he wondered.  "These are some of the dynamics, the government should think about before telling us fish.”
