A new head coach of Amavubi is expected to be appointed between the end of February and early March, a Rwanda FA official has confirmed.

According to the official, the federation is fast-tracking the process to ensure the new tactician has adequate time to prepare the national team for the upcoming FIFA Series matches scheduled for March and April in Kigali.

"To sign a new head coach, you need time and money, and we need a head coach at this moment. We will do everything possible to have him before the end of February or at the start of March,” the official said.

Assistant coach Eric Nshimiyimana is reportedly sending call-ups to Rwandan players based abroad ahead of the upcoming FIFA international window.

Rwanda will host matches involving 11 FIFA Member Associations, including Australia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Côte d’Ivoire, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Thailand and Uzbekistan.

Matches will be staged at Kigali Pele Stadium — currently undergoing renovation — and Amahoro Stadium.

British coach Stephen Constantine has been mentioned in connection with a possible return to Amavubi. Constantine previously coached Rwanda between 2014 and 2015 during a notable stint with the national team.

The expanded FIFA Series 2026 will feature 12 groups — nine in the men’s category and three in the women’s — with Rwanda hosting two groups, positioning the country as one of the key hubs of the tournament.

All matches will count as official international friendlies and will be broadcast worldwide, offering Rwanda an opportunity to showcase its football infrastructure and organisational capacity on the global stage.

The 2026 edition builds on the success of the 2024 pilot tournament, following confirmation of hosts and group compositions in January 2026.
