Police VC produced a commanding 3–0 victory over East African University Rwanda (EAUR) on Saturday at Sainte Famille Gymnasium, leapfrogging Rwanda Energy Group (REG) into fourth place in the national volleyball league standings.
Fred Musoni’s side, who started the day in fifth position, claimed the straight-sets win 25–17, 25–22, 28–26 to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The law enforcers began on the front foot, with Elphas Makuto leading the charge through powerful spikes that repeatedly dismantled EAUR’s defence. Police comfortably secured the opening set 25–17.
They maintained their aggressive approach in the second and third sets. Although EAUR mounted resistance, Police held their composure in key moments to seal the sets 25–22 and 28–26 and complete the sweep.
"We haven’t been performing well in our previous fixtures, but we are regrouping and confident going into our next matches. Nothing is guaranteed yet, so we must stay focused,” middle blocker Placide Sibomana told Times Sport after the match.
Despite moving up to fourth place, Police must win their remaining fixtures against APR VC, Kepler VC and Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) to secure a guaranteed playoff berth.
Elsewhere, APR VC defeated Rwanda Polytechnic–Ngoma in four sets (25–23, 24–26, 25–11, 25–17). The victory lifted coach Sammy Mulinge’s side to the top of the standings with 33 points, two ahead of Gisagara VC, who dropped to second following their tiebreak loss to REG on Friday.
In the women’s category, Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) strengthened their top-four position with a convincing straight-sets win over RP–Ngoma (25–10, 25–14, 25–21).
Meanwhile, Ruhango VC suffered a setback against EAUR, falling in three straight sets (16–25, 12–25, 12–25).
