REG VC shock Gisagara VC to keep playoffs hopes alive
Saturday, February 14, 2026

Rwanda Energy Group (REG) VC produced a stunning comeback to defeat Gisagara VC 3–2 (25–13, 22–25, 19–25, 25–19, 15–11) in a gripping volleyball league clash at Petit Stade indoor gymnasium on Friday.

The hard-fought victory keeps REG in contention for a 2025/26 playoffs berth while denying Gisagara an early qualification ticket.

REG started strongly, dominating the opening set 25–13 with powerful attacking play and disciplined defence. However, Gisagara regrouped tactically to take the second set 25–22 and level the match. They maintained the momentum in the third set, winning 25–19 to move into a 2–1 lead.

Coach Benon Mugisha’s side refused to surrender. REG raised their intensity in the fourth set, claiming it 25–19 to force a decisive tiebreaker. In a tense finale, REG sealed the set 15–11, with setter Crispin Ntanteteri scoring the winning point to complete the comeback.

"We needed this win more than Gisagara did, and that fueled our determination until the final point,” Mugisha told Times Sport. "We now shift our focus to the next encounter, which is equally important.”

REG have two regular-season matches remaining against Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) and APR VC—fixtures that will determine their playoff fate.

Elsewhere, KVC collected three points with a 3–1 win over Kirehe VC (27–25, 19–25, 25–20, 25–19), leaving Kirehe still searching for their first victory of the season.

In the women’s category, APR WVC defeated Police WVC 3–1 (25–17, 22–25, 25–19, 25–22) under newly appointed Kenyan coach Justine Kigwaria, despite a commendable performance from Police setter Iris Ndagijimana.

League action continues on Saturday, February 14, at Sainte Famille Gymnasium.
