Rayon open to Kagame Cup option

RAYON Sport are more than willing to compete in this year’s Cecafa Kagame Cup. The annual club competition, which was won by Atraco in 2009, will be staged in Kigali in May. With increasing reports that Rwanda could be given an option of fielding three teams in the tournament, Ferwafa’s Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa yesterday said that there is a 90% chance that the Blues will claim the third slot after league champions APR and reigning champions Atraco.

RAYON Sport are more than willing to compete in this year’s Cecafa Kagame Cup. The annual club competition, which was won by Atraco in 2009, will be staged in Kigali in May.

With increasing reports that Rwanda could be given an option of fielding three teams in the tournament, Ferwafa’s Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa yesterday said that there is a 90% chance that the Blues will claim the third slot after league champions APR and reigning champions Atraco.

"We are still discussing the issue with other stake holders about Rayon’s involvement but there is a good chance that they will take part.”

The Blues Secretary General Olivier Gakwaya reckons that it will be a great opportunity for the club to feature to compete with the region’s top teams.

"We have been notified and it is something we are ready to embrace with open arms.”

Rayon were the first local club to win the tournament on foreign soil back in 1998. The tournament is sponsored by President Paul Kagame.
