HAPPY: Ferwacy president Aimable Bayingana

THE national cycling federation (Ferwacy) has been boosted with a donation of 60 professional bicycles and additional cycling equipment worthy Rwf100m from an Italian businessman known as Scandola Alfieri.

The federation president Aimable Bayingana now believes the equipment will go a long way in speeding up the development of the sport.

"We have been short on quality bicycles, which has compromised the talent in the country but with this donation, we intend to exploit the raw talent especially among the youth,” Bayingana said.

The bicycles will be given to selected riders from local cycling clubs. Only riders between the ages of 17-22 are eligible and Team Rwanda’s coach Jonathan Boyer will oversee the progress of the cyclists.

Meanwhile, Team Rwanda has stepped up training in Musanze ahead of the upcoming Tour of Cameroon which starts on February 15.

Last month, the team finished 10th in the Tour of Gabon-‘La Tropicale Amissa Bongo’.
