Rwandan midfielder Hakim Sahabo has completed a move to AEK Athens from Standard Liège on a deal that will keep him at the Greek club until June 2030.
The 20-year-old midfielder joins the Greek Super League 1 leaders for a reported transfer fee of €1.5 million (approximately Rwf 2.6 billion).
Sahabo’s switch represents the latest step in a development pathway that has taken him through Belgium and France, steadily shaping him into one of Rwanda’s most promising midfielders.
Born in Brussels, Belgium, the 1.85-metre-tall midfielder has primarily operated as a defensive midfielder. He arrives at AEK Athens at a strong moment for the club, with the Greek giants currently top of the Super League standings on 44 points after 18 matches, as they look to reinforce their squad in pursuit of the league title.
During his spell at Standard Liège, Sahabo made 34 appearances, establishing himself as a reliable and emerging midfield option.
His journey began in the youth ranks of KRC Genk, before joining Standard Liège’s academy in 2020. A year later, he moved to France to join LOSC Lille’s U17 side, later progressing to the U19 team.
In 2023, Sahabo returned to Belgium with Standard Liège 16 FC, earning promotion to the first team at the start of 2024.
