RWAMAGANA - The Liberal Party (PL) over the weekend elected new leaders to fill a number of vacant posts in the party.

The elections that was held in Rwamagana District attracted over 70 PL representatives from all over the Eastern Province.

Lawmaker Charles Kamanda, was elected the party Chairman in the Province while Josiana Mukamwezi, was elected the party Secretary.

Kamanda will be deputised by Claudette Muhayimpundu and Jean De Dieu Kayonga.

In his speech, the newly elected chairman sensitised party members, on how to conduct themselves during the forth coming presidential elections.

Kamanda said that it is absurd to see how some political leaders are behaving before the elections.

"There are some fundamentals we have to observe when exercising our democratic right, of electing leaders. It is however, regrettable that some politicians have started going the wrong way,” he said.

"I don’t need to mention individual parties or politicians, but some of them are shamelessly craving for the Rwanda of 15 years ago. Politics based on ethnic grounds, cannot hold water in Rwanda any more. PL supporters know that.”

On her part, Claudette Muhayimpundu, urged party leaders to organise their members in the districts to heed the coming elections in big numbers.

"Tell your people to be responsible enough to take part in the elections. A good citizen takes part in elections; for the choice we make, impacts on many in communities. No PL follower should thus be left behind,” she said.
