Broadcast journalist Jean-Maurice Uwera has been appointed deputy spokesperson of the government of Rwanda.
The appointment was made on Wednesday, January 28, during a cabinet meeting chaired by President Paul Kagame at Village Urugwiro.

He replaces Alain Mukuralinda, who died on April 4 last year at the age of 55. He had served in the position since December 2021.
Uwera is a national media leader with over 14 years of experience in broadcasting and public communication, combined with an in-depth understanding of Rwanda’s media landscape, citizen information expectations, and government relations.
Since February last year, he has been the Executive Director of 93.9 SK FM, where he led strategic editorial direction for emerging business.
Prior to this, he held various roles at Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) including working as a senior presenter and station manager at Magic FM.
Uwera started his career in media in 2011 as production manager at Flash FM and TV, following a stint in the hospitality industry. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Communication Studies from the Catholic Institute of Kabgayi.
