AS Kigali captain Janvier Benedata believes his side can overcome APR FC and book a place in the Heroes Cup 2026 final when the two rivals meet in the semifinals at Kigali Pelé Stadium on January 28, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 PM.
APR FC won 2025 Heroes Cup after beating Police FC 4-2 on penalties after a scoreless draw in the final. The army side is now looking to retain the trophy but AS Kigali are standing in their way.
"We know APR are a good team with strong players, but we are ready for the match,” Benedata said. "Our target is to reach the final, and we attach a lot of value to this tournament.
"It will be a tough match, but it is also a big motivation for our season. We will give our all.”
The winner of the encounter will advance to the final, where they will face either Police FC or Rayon Sports, who are set to clash in the other semifinal on Thursday, January 29.
The Heroes Cup, organised annually by the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) in partnership with the Chancellery for Heroes, National Orders and Decorations of Honour (CHENO), serves as a symbol of honour, remembrance, and sporting excellence.
