It’s important to note that the western influence has brought much change in our day. You realize it has changed the social lives of the people.

However the teens are the most impacted. The excellent, awful, name it….personalities have all featured. The teens’ life styles have upgraded.

Talk about dress code, teens imitate their favourite Western movie stars. The Baggy jeans, shiny bling (bling bling), print shirts, classic sneakers, large T-shirts aka crunk T-shirts for the boys…the list is endless. Boys will exchange their life savings for great designs {cloths} in addition to the flashy phones.

Come to the girl’s world its fascinating, the so-called tank tops, high heels, bags, necklaces, ear rings, skinny pants, gone are the days when girls were prohibited from putting on trousers, the western culture has introduced it all.

More so, the western has influenced the teens psychologically, beauty is now another saying. A small body size is the on trend; girls starve themselves in the name of beauty, every teen adores achieving that "campus figure”, like they call it. Some lose their health in effort to get the perfect size, inorder to fit in.

Save for cultural diversity which is also an influence from the West. With the exotic content, teens have totally forgotten their culture and its values. Meanwhile,

Umushanana, Rwanda’s traditional wear is considered local.
And yes, the Western world is to blame for the generation gap, lately there is not much interaction between the young generation and the old. To the teens, the old are ‘ancient’ and their peers are ‘cool.

Recently teenagers speak their own language, one that can’t be understood by the adults. Perhaps it’s a mixture of American and another anonymous language. The slang part of it is only known to them. "Walup”, means hello, "watchu doin?” stands for, what are u doing? Any way that’s the teen language.

And when they watch a movie on drugs, teens are seduced into abusing drugs; they regard it cool since it’s from the West.

Apart from drugs, teens are subjected to higher levels of addiction. Online pornography, facebook, electronic games, TVs shows, name it. A teen will spend his entire life surfing the net, just because it’s Western and therefore cool. House work is a stinks after all.

In this day and age the teens have become so open minded. Interacting with the outside world has equipped them with ongoing proceedings.Soccer, movies, documentaries, education, and all that. Thanks to Google.

And some teens have explored their talent, owing to the Western influence. As many boys yearn to be Africa’s Kobe Bryant at basketball, girls are Oprah Winfreys in the making.

Like the saying goes, nursery trees make a forest firm. I am afraid our beautiful culture might be replaced with the Western; after all teens are adapting to Western trends at a high speed.
