NGOMA - Residents of Kibungo town in Ngoma district have criticized the ongoing exercise to pull down buildings, saying the exercise is being done in a haphazard way. 

Speaking to The New Times, Zenoki Ngarambe, one of those whose houses were demolished, said they were not given ample time and there is no compensation. 

"We were given 24 hours notice before our houses were demolished,” he said.

Another resident, Mariyana Karinganire also insisted that the policy was ill-conceived, while others claimed that the exercise is being done selectively.

The affected families have appealed to the office of the Ombudsman, but are yet to receive response.

The District Executive Secretary, Edward Muzungu, explained that the demolition was meant to create space for the market expansion and the town development in general. He refuted the lack of compensation, saying those affected are being compensated.
