THE 2011 U-17 African Youth Championship has been brought forward, Times Sport reports.

The tournament, which will be staged in Rwanda, will now be held next January as opposed to June, 2011.
"Reports from Angola indicate that the tournament has been brought forward,” Ferwafa vice president Raoul Gisanura said.

Initially, the tournament was scheduled to run from June 4-18.

The two-week tournament will be held at three venues; Amahoro, Nyamirambo’s Regional stadium and in Rubavu, Northern Province.

Rwanda was approved to host the event during a CAF congress, which was held last year in Lagos, Nigeria.

Rwanda won the race to host the event after successfully staging the U-20 Youth Championships early last year.

Ghana won the tournament after beating their West African rivals Cameroon 2-0 in the final. Rwanda, who were drawn in group A alongside Ghana, Cameroon and Mali, did not progress past the group stage.
