COMMENTARY : How to win in life

To win in life is like to win a game not beating those playing it! This is often what makes many regret in life, looking at why he or she achieved better results than him or her rather than looking at what he or she did wrong that cost them those great results. We are at the start of the year and it would be of the wisest way of benefit that we get some of these principles on how to win in life.

• Put God first:

They say that putting God first is an equivalence of silence and is paramount if you require the best out of yourself. To learn and acquire know-how, one has to have the gift of listening which can be done by keeping mum for a while in order to get what the other is saying , whether a teacher or contributors in a discussion group. God is I am, he has no past, present or future.

•  To most of our realization, most students do not put enough study in their time;
instead they put a lot of time in their studies. Sitting in a study room for more than three hours and getting nothing from the study can be really heart breaking and discouraging. One often ends up asking him or herself why he or she went to the room in the first place. After all, the results are the same as those of on who didn’t even touch a book.

• A Positive Mental Attitude (PMA):

Your attitude determines your altitude i.e. how high you are going. When the attitude changes, miracles begin to happen. Athletes today have a mental rehearsal to improve on their attitude before any race because they know it is the attitude that breaks records.

• Practice positive self-talk:

Everyday, take five good minutes of mental rehearsal like I am a winner, I am creative, I am brilliant! Don’t try to remember anything that happened in the past that could deter your self confidence.

Always remember that the past is history, the future is a mystery and the present is a gift. Don’t worry because worry is a darkroom where negatives are produced while the present is a room where they manufacture success.

• Have a goal in mind: Many say that life is short, but how short can it be and how long can you live? It is necessary to know for how long you want to live. Estimate, am going to live for 87 years, how many have I lived for so far?

This would help you know your career which will make you b somebody for the rest of your life. By being somebody, you have to do the best in whatever you pursue, be honest, have empathy i.e. think in the shoes of others, have self-discipline i.e. do many good things in secret, differ enjoyment from the future and work extremely hard.

Do not forget to always have a short term goal, it could as well be the marks you desire in an exam.

• Study methodically: It is best if a student sweats from his or her desk well knowing in mind the syllabus (purpose, objectives, subject matter) and getting a personal timetable which should be able to change at any time.

After about 45 minutes evaluate yourself and see what you have covered. Always put the hardest subjects first to study. If you have to eat two frogs, eat the ugliest first. In life, always do what you hate first, not what you enjoy.

As a rule, when reading, don’t read to remember but read to understand because when you understand you remember.

• Continuous learning: This is the minimum requirement for success in any field. You should note that mathematics is the most important subject because it tests whether you are a human being i.e. whether you are thinking.

There is this joke where a man went to a shop where brains were being sold. American and European brains were going for $500 each only, the Asian one was for an average $1000 each and the African one for a whooping $5000. "Why?” asked the buyer.

The seller replied him that they were almost unused. Mathematics mans to be speedy, orderly, and observant.

• Exercise:

Practice all forms of physical, intellectual, social and spiritual exercises. This will help you be healthy and think straight.

• On the 11th hour:

This is the day before exams, don’t read anything new, read faster, have the examination room requirements there before exam, have enough sleep, and say a prayer before the exam.

With these tips, you’ll absolutely be the best of the rest.
