2010 CAN corner : CAN 2010 isn’t as boring after all or is it?

It started on a relatively high note with one or two shock results, then it subdued a little bit along the way but the quarterfinals proved that the 2010 Nations Cup in Angola isn’t all groom as some people wanted to believe. All four quarterfinal matches gave us the sort of entertainment and a bit of drama you would expect from a major tournament.

There was a bit of everything from goals, heartbreaks, shocks, controversy and most importantly some good football.

All four matches produced 10 goals, which accounts to 2.5 goals per game, the host nation Angola were left heartbroken by Ghana, Algeria shocked many people’s pre-tournament overwhelming favorites Ivory Coast, Egypt were awarded a goal that wasn’t against Cameroon and last but not least, Zambia, despite losing to Nigeria on penalties, left the tournament with head high.

Of all the four semifinalists, the Super Eagles are the least deserving to be where they are but Ghana won’t have an easy ride because these are two traditional archrivals, who know each other in and out.

Egypt against Algeria, because of the history between the two teams should have provided the kind of final all football lovers would love to see, nonetheless, their semifinal clash will give us something different from what we have seen throughout the tournament.

When the two teams take to the field, rest be assured of drama, full-blooded tackles, good football, several bookings but most importantly some sort of physical fights (how I’d love to see the latter). And after, the winner of this particular game will go on to win the tournament.
