GICUMBI – District chairpersons of Red Cross Rwanda volunteers in the Northern Province have pledged to strengthen their 2010 humanitarian services through training residents on disaster management.

They made the resolution last Sunday during a meeting to evaluate the organizations activities and lay strategies for achieving the organization’s 2010 work targets.

The Executive Secretary of Byumba Sector Jean Marie Vianney Gahano, while opening the meeting, called upon Red Cross Rwanda volunteers to work hand in hand with local leaders to eradicate poverty in their respective districts.

"Evaluation of your past economic contributions and laying future strategies towards national development are part of good governance, enshrined in Rwanda’s development pillars,” said Gahano.

The Northern Province Red Cross Rwanda Coordinator, Eugene Karangwa noted that evaluation of their activities is the only way to guarantee a better future performance.

He called on the Red Cross district chairpersons to recruit more volunteers, in order to realize positive achievements. "Your pledges for 2010 should not remain on paper only, but should be seen being put in action,” Karangwa said.
