American computer scientist Khosla named University of Rwanda board chair

Pradeep Khosla appointed chairperson of the University of Rwanda Board of Governors.

Indian-American computer scientist Pradeep Khosla has been named the chairperson of University of Rwanda (UR)'s board of governors.

He succeeds Prof. Paul Davenport, the long-serving chair who has held the position since 2013.

Joining Khosla on the reconstituted board is a group of experts: Ivan Murenzi (Vice Chairperson), Winston Wole Soboyejo, Charles Karakye, Samantha Teta, and Josephine Nyiranzeyimana as members.

Born in Mumbai, India, in 1957, Khosla earned a Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur in 1980 before moving to the United States.

His academic journey continued at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), where he received his Master’s degree in 1984 and his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1986.

Since 2012, he has served as the eighth Chancellor of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).

At Carnegie Mellon, where he spent over two decades, he held several key leadership roles, including, Founding Director of the Institute for Complex Engineered Systems (ICES), Founding Director of CyLab, department head of Electrical and Computer Engineering (1999-2004), Director of the Information Networking Institute, and the Dean of the College of Engineering.
