KIGALI - Five out of the nine city schools that had been blacklisted for being unhygienic have been allowed to reopen for the 2010 academic year.

The schools include King David Academy, ESSA Nyarugunga, Groupe Scolaire APERWA and Ecole Amis des enfants Kagugu.

According to Paul Jules Ndamage, the Mayor of Kicukiro District where two of the cleared schools are located, the schools worked tirelessly to correct the mess in time for the opening of the new school term.

"They are now free to open since they have been able to achieve the standards that were required by KCC,” he said.
The schools that have not yet been cleared include Collège de Mwendo, APACE Kabusunzu, Collège Ingenzi, Groupe Scolaire Kimisange and ESA Gikondo.

Late last year, KCC health inspection teams conducted health inspections on 32 schools around Kigali City, most of them with boarding sections.
