TEAM Rwanda’s captain Abraham Ruhumuriza put in a spirited fight to finish 21st in the second stage of the tour of Gabon - ‘La Tropicale Amissa Bongo’.

The 30-year-old used three hours and eleven minutes during the 86km stage. His team mates Nicodem Habiyambere, Nathan Byukusenge and Rafiki Uwase finished 27th, 32nd and 56th.

The President of the National Cycling federation Aimable Bayingana, who is with the team in Gabon, told Times Sport that the team’s experience with the hilly terrain worked in their favour.

"It was a great team effort considering the fact that Team Rwanda is competing with top quality cyclists.”

In the team rankings, Rwanda jumped from 15th place to 7th. French teams Confidis Le Credit en Ligne, AG2R La Mondiale and BBox Bouygues telecom lead the standings.
