Media HighCouncil gets new board members

KIGALI - The New Times Managing Editor, Arthur Asiimwe, and Contact F.M’s Managing Director, Albert Rudatsimburwa, were yesterday elected to the board of the Media High Council (MHC). In the elections held at Kana, St. Famille, Asiimwe garnered 60 votes while Rudatsimburwa got 50 votes, out of the 62 total votes cast.

KIGALI - The New Times Managing Editor, Arthur Asiimwe, and Contact F.M’s Managing Director, Albert Rudatsimburwa, were yesterday elected to the board of the Media High Council (MHC).

In the elections held at Kana, St. Famille, Asiimwe garnered 60 votes while Rudatsimburwa got 50 votes, out of the 62 total votes cast.

The duo represents print and electronic private media houses in the country on the seven-man board of the media regulatory organ. They pledged to uplift the standards of media houses in the country.

On his part, Asiimwe promised to fight for press freedom.
"I have the required experience coupled with knowledge to champion press freedom in this country and this will be top on my agenda,” Asiimwe said.

He vowed to bring all media houses in the country to a mutual understanding and help in looking for funds to help media practitioners in the country professionalise in their field.

"We can not realize our goals if we are not united,” he said. "Unity has to prevail amongst all practitioners to realize all our dreams and I will make this one of my priorities,” he added.
