FIFA president Gianni Infantino, sports minister Nelly Mukaziyire, and FERWAFA president Fabrice Shema Ngoga attended a Rwanda Premier League (RPL) game between Gasogi United and AS Kigali on Friday, December 26.

The trio began their day at Amahoro Stadium, where, along with president Paul Kagame, participated in the FIFA Football Festival, an initiative aimed at inspiring young footballers and encouraging them to view sport not only as leisure but as a potential professional pathway.

Later in the afternoon, Ngoga welcomed Infantino and Mukaziyire to Kigali Pelé Stadium to watch the game between Gasogi United and AS Kigali.

The encounter revived a familiar rivalry between the two sides. Their previous meeting, held on March 3, ended in a draw. However, AS Kigali entered this fixture with an edge, having dominated recent encounters.

In the last five meetings between the two clubs, Gasogi United have managed just one victory.

Despite AS Kigali’s advantage in past encounters, Gasogi United came into the game in a better position on the league table, sitting eighth on the standings.

AS Kigali, meanwhile, were struggling near the bottom, placed 15th among the 18 teams competing in Rwanda’s top-flight league.
