Former Prime Minister Bernard Makuza is leading the African Union Commission's election observers in the Central African Republic (CAR).
On Wednesday, Amb. Valentine Rugwabiza, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in CAR and Head of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in CAR (MINUSCA), met with Makuza, in Bangui.

The country will hold its general elections on Sunday, December 28, with President Faustin-Archange Touadéra seeking a third term in office.
Campaigns were scheduled to end on Friday evening. Touadera who was first elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2020 declared his intention to run again in late July. His candidacy comes amid gradual improvements in CAR’s security situation
Makuza served as Rwanda’s Prime Minister from March 2000 till October, 2011, and also as Senate President from October 2014 to October 2019.
