The Mayor of the City of Kigali, Samuel Dusengiyumva, speaks to journalists at KCC public square on Wednesday, December 25.

The Mayor of the City of Kigali, Samuel Dusengiyumva, has called on the public to drink responsibly, avoid unsafe driving, and adhere to noise control regulations as the year-end festivities approach.

The mayor urged city residents, and visitors, to celebrate responsibly, emphasizing that life after the festivities should continue in a healthy and safe manner.

Dusengiyumva was speaking on Wednesday, December 24, at the start of Kigali Countdown Fest, which is set to run for 10 days at the Kigali Convention Center roundabout.

During the event, "The Bridge of Christmas”, the country’s first locally produced Christmas-themed film, was screened.

"What is most important is our health. Tunyweless should remain our mantra,” he said. "We do not need to drink recklessly or abuse drugs to enjoy ourselves. After this celebration, life continues, and we need to make more progress and go further.”

"Road safety is also very important. We need to be vigilant and protect one another. That is highly recommended,” he added.

Dusengiyumva noted that people sometimes become overly carried away by enjoyment, ultimately disturbing their neighbours and nearby communities. He stressed that, regardless of the nature of the event or funfair, noise control must be respected, particularly in churches, bars, and other public gatherings.

"We invite everyone to attend. We want people to enjoy the festival over the next 10 days. More Gakondo and secular concerts will be staged. We have carefully prepared refreshments and services for them. They should not miss it. It belongs to everyone and they all belong here,” he said
