The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Louise Mushikiwabo has officially handed over the Ministry of Information to Protais Musoni, the Minister for Cabinet Affairs, who will handle its affairs in the interim.

Speaking at the handover ceremony at the Ministry of Information headquarters in Kimihurura, Mushikiwabo listed some on-going projects within her former ministry that required immediate attention.

"There is a document in there that I wish to put emphasis on – it shows projects that are mid-way and need to be fast tracked and these are media related projects, including that of modernizing Orinfor, which needs to be speeded up.”

"This involves issues such as building studios for the television and changing the structure of Orinfor.”

Mushikiwabo also clarified earlier reports that the Media High Council (MHC) had taken up most tasks of the ministry saying that what was transferred was day-to-day activities of dealing with journalists and media organizations
"Government communication remains the core mandate of the ministry in addition to policy formulation on issues related to media.”

The Director General of Mininfor, Ignatius Kabagambe, stressed that what was recently channelled to the MHC were line media tasks such as accreditation of foreign journalists as well as handling issues related to setting up new media houses.

He added that media development remained one of the key missions of the ministry.

Musoni commended Mushikiwabo for her achievements in the ministry and hoped for continued support from her.

"Mininfor and Minaffet are very close and we shall always keep seeking your help in media-related issues,” Musoni said.
