Gospel hip hop artist Alexis Dusabe graces the cover of this week’s SundayMag.

The artist talks about his life and his salvation. He is also slated to host (today) a show dubbed "Special Gospel Concert”, which is aimed at encouraging Rwandans to embrace the culture of loving their own music and supporting local artists by buying their compositions.

"If Rwandans can support local artists, the music industry would develop, because we have the talent but artists lack the financial support,” Dusabe said.

At the concert [Special Gospel Concert], people will only need to buy CDs Rfw5000 as the entrance requirement.
Alexis’s gospel music has become fan favourites, and his latest release, "Umwami Yesu Araje,” is up there in the gospel music charts.

Dusabe, who recently turned 31, grew up singing in church in Kacyiru, a Kigali suburb. In 1996, he joined a choir called "Hozana”, in Gacuriro.

His vocal talent was recognized at an early age, and some of his Sunday school teachers tried to steer him toward the adults’ choir.

One thing he has taken to heart is the need to balance the business and ministry aspects of a gospel music career. "In order to be successful and have a long career, you can’t ignore either side,” he said.

"I have a reason why I sing, it’s because the Kingdom of God is soon, and I want Rwandans to repent and accept Jesus Christ as their saviour.”
