HUYE – District officials have reaffirmed their commitment to complete the construction of classrooms to support the 9-year basic education program before the start of the 2010 academic year.

Védaste Nshimiyimana, the district executive secretary in an interview with The New Times said that construction of 111 classrooms and 170 toilets is near completion in nine sectors.

"We are confident that come next month all classrooms and their toilet units will be completed and ready for use in the district,” he said.

Nshimiyimana hailed the support received from the local people, public institutions and private businesses.

"The support that we received from different public and private institutions, businesses and the general public has greatly supplemented government’s efforts in ensuring that this exercise is a success, we are thankful for their unwavering support,” the district official added.

The district received over Rwf39million from some public and private institutions working in the district and other donations of classroom furniture from private entrepreneurs.

This supplemented the Rwf150million received from the Ministry of Education towards the exercise.
