A licensed manicurist or pedicurator otherwise the nail technician is a highly skilled professional who works with clients to enhance the appearance of nails on both hands and feet.
His job description often involves giving manicures and pedicures, they may also apply acrylic or gel nails and makes repairs to damaged nails with great attention to detail, they help clients have healthy and attractive nails.
Others may offer elaborate nail art, including painting highly detailed designs on a customer’s nails. Clients with artificial nails will require regular fill-ins to maintain their look; manicurists typically perform this service, along with removing acrylic nails if the client wishes to switch back to natural nails.
Some nail technicians also perform hand massages and give paraffin treatments to their clients as part of a spa manicure.
But I continued to wonder whether being a nail technician can sustain someone’s livelihood until recently when I visited several.
According to Dan Gatare a manicurist for six years at Umucyo saloon in Kanombe, the job has enabled him to build a house, pay school fees for his kids; therefore he doesn’t regret his career.
Being a manicurist is an easy job because one of the most important job duties Gatare does involves maintaining a clean work space; on a daily basis he disinfects all manicure equipment including nail and cuticle clippers files and brushes for acrylic nails.
He sanitizes pedicure and manicure tubs between clients to reduce the likelihood of contamination because these steps are necessary to reduce the risk of infections; some people have contracted viral, bacterial and fungal infections during manicures or pedicures from contaminated utensils and equipment.
For more than ten years calixte Mitari has been working as a manicurist but now he owns his salon that deals in pedicure, manicure and hair styles on top of that he employs nine workers whom he pays a monthly salary.
"I like my job so much because people used to under look it but now they are the ones who come to me looking for assistance in terms of money” he said it in a pompous way.

The day has come when your amazing hair stylist tells you he is moving, not to a new hair saloon but out of the country, how are you going to find a hair stylist with the same level of professionalism as your hair stylist has?
It seems hair stylists are doing well in their industry because people jam saloons every day to have their hair cut, plaiting and treatment.
These days hair stylists are a dime a dozen, everywhere you look there is a hair saloon in every corner.

She says that it’s a tricky business and very hard work if you want to make good money, your pay cheque depends on if someone cancels or keeps an appointment for that day or week.
The money I get from my job has helped me in educating my children so far i have a daughter in primary school right now and one in high school.
Xavier Kadogo a hair stylist at Babes and Guys saloon says that there is a lot of money in hairstyling but the problem is you have to take your time to make a name for yourself and that does not happen over night.
Noella Uwimana a regular customer at Eden Salon discloses that a good hair stylist is like your best friend, and doesn’t share your secrets with anyone, including any of your friends.
All in all both the manicurist and the hair saloon stylists are enjoying their job and have managed to live a good life.
